The Mis-Information Highway! - Lavender & the Media - Slanted Journalism, you think?

My rant of the day ! But first .. the meaning of :: 'Shill' .. as quoted from the Websters Dictionary: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shill

... or the street verison .. selling you a 'dream' .. the 'mouth piece' of thehuge corporations that are controlling the media and information highway ..
slanted journalism .. oh my.! Here in America, please say it ain't so.!!
So, with that .. the LA Times today is pitching an article on 'Lavender'.
As a rebuttal to this misinformed 'Shill' of an article, with permission from Harry Roth, I am printing his response sent to the LA Times::

'Please try not to be such a shill of the fragrance industry.

I refer to your article today alleging that the effects of lavender are bogus, this assertion coming directly from a mouthpiece of the fragrance industry onto your pages. You should have at least checked PubMed for recent peer-reviewed journal articles on the efficacy of lavender in stress reduction instead of scarfing down fragrance industry pap.

Here are a few articles from JUST 2007-2008--that's right, ONE YEAR.
There are many, many more:

Nurses working in intensive care were less stressed when they used lavender.

The scent of lavender lowers blood pressure in mice.

Lavender bath oil reduces stress and crying and enhances sleep in very young infants.

Treatment with lavender aromatherapy in the post-anesthesia care unit reduces opioid requirements of morbidly obese patients undergoing laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding.

Relaxation effects of lavender aromatherapy improve coronary flow velocity reserve in healthy men evaluated by trans thoracic Doppler echo cardiography.

Positive effects of aromatherapy massage on blood pressure and lipid profile in Korean climacteric women.

Anxiolytic effects of lavender oil inhalation on open-field behaviour in rats. Shows lavender also sedating at higher doses.

Positive effects of lavender aromatherapy acupressure on hemiplegic shoulder pain and motor power in stroke patients.

Lavender relaxes women having electrocardiogram in Japan.

Lavender calms agitated behavior in people with Alzheimer's.

Lavender decreases the stress hormone cortisol.

Have an informed day.
Sincerely,
Harold A. Roth, Ph.D.

Spring Equinox, Full Moon, New Beginnings

Well, this year is just moving along for me .. Spring is always a sign of 'rebirth' and 'new beginnings'. My Mom would always say how beautiful it was to watch Mother Nature wake up from her sleep and the beautiful 'new green' color on trees.

My garden here in the Bronx is slowly waking up,the day lilies are about 2 inches tall already, as are my irises. The grass is even starting to act up.! This year I am planning to put some blueberries & raspberries in, and some 'bee boxes'.

Part of my thing is 'recycling'. Friends bring me their peanuts and bubble wrap that I use here at SunRose. However, there is an area that some folks do not know what to do with :
their old / broken electronics i.e. cell phones, old laptops, etc.

This is an informative article:
Engineering a Tough Switch: Getting New Yorkers to Recycle Electronics - New York Times http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/10/nyregion/10recycle.html?ex=1362801600&en=1e83a25ec0dd81d1&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss

Some upcoming events that may be in your area:

For those in the New England Area:
Boston Gift Show 'Gift Rap' - April 5 - 8, 2008
BGS Gift Rap http://link.ixs1.net/s/ve?eli=2187959&si=5166747554&cfc=3html

Down in Texas:
The International Congress of Esthetics & Spa
April 13 & 14, 2008
International Congress of Esthetics and Spa, Dallas 2008
http://dallas.skincareshows.com/

Attending these shows are a great way to keep in touch with the 'new wave' of products and just to meet folks in the industry.

My niece, Christie Marie Tartaro, who is also my 'house mate' at the 1120 Club here in the Bronx... is doing the Revlon Run/Walk for Women. Some of us are survivors and some, though fought the good fight, have moved on to the next plane.

Revlon Run/Walk For Women - New York https://www.revlonrunwalk.com/ny/secure/MyWebPage.cfm?pID=416752

On Saturday, May 3rd I will be participating in the 11th annual Revlon Run/Walk for Women in NYC. This 5k race will help raise money for women's cancer research (breast and ovarian cancers).
While I've been hitting the gym 5-6 days a week, I'm planning on walking the 5k with my Mom and my friend Peggy.
I have set a personal fundraising goal of $500 for this great cause. I am hoping that you will be able to help me achieve my goal! Remember, no donation is too small!

If you would like to make a donation, please visit click on the link below to visit my personal fundraising page. Revlon Run/Walk For Women - New York https://www.revlonrunwalk.com/ny/secure/MyWebPage.cfm?pID=416752

It sure has been a hectic few weeks here, life in progress. Spring reminds me to celebrate life with the rebirth of Nature ! Even when things seem bleak, look outside and see the beauty of nature.
